The Catcher in the Rye chapters 7- 12

First of all, I certainly hope I would never get expelled! And if I did, I don't believe I would leave early in the first place. However, for the sake of the question, I think I would find a hotel in New York, as Holden did. That is where the similarities end. I would probably stay in my room, or possibly go sightseeing, instead of making such questionable choices that Holden did. I wouldn't stay too far away from my home, but I would try to relax and take a break from our rushed world. I would want to contemplate and reminisce to gain some serenity.  Holden, on the contrary, puts himself in situations in which he is continually forced to endure humanity.

I believe Jane is almost the only person Holden actually likes. If I remember correctly, the only other people that Holden isn't bothered by are Phoebe and Allie, who is dead. I believe Holden enjoys Jane's company and is able to connect with her on a deeper level because she is a very genuine person. He is able to have a conversation with her without Jane being "phony" or faking emotions. The other characters in The Catcher in the Rye were false in some way, so they only irritated Holden. She is rather serious, but apparently is still caring.  She is the only person that Holden actually seems to want to see throughout the entire book. I perceived her as a true friend to Holden, and a person who brought out his best characteristics.  I think Jane is one of the only people who would satisfy and comfort Holden.

I don't think people should be able to ruin things for others - nevertheless, we allow them to. We let others bother, annoy, or depress us, instead of successfully being unaffected. Thus, when Holden says, "people are always ruining things for you." I believe he was speaking the truth. There have been numerous times I have let someone who I would rather not see "ruin" a conversation or event when he/she appeared, despite my best attempts to ignore him/her. The happy mood would quickly dissipate, and I would be unable to recall it. I agree with Holden, though I wish I could say differently.
